API is a renowned manufacturer of high-end preamps, EQs, compressors and related products. With the introduction of the 512v, they now offer an excellent microphone/instrument preamp in lunchbox-style. Not only does it boast a low amount of noise (-129 EIN), the amount of gain can be considered impressive. With a massive 65 dB, you have plenty of headroom for any and all dynamic recordings. The 512v modular lunchbox-style is perfect for integration in a 500V rack or an API console.

High-quality Components

High quality components and discrete signal routing guarantee legitimate audio reproduction, thanks to high-grade transformers and the well-known 2520 OP amp fitted in the 512v. The result is a melodic and rich sounding pre-amp that boasts analogue class. Completely in line with the tradition set by other API manufacturers, the 512v has been entirely built by hand and perfectly suits any home studio thanks to its compact size.

Connectors & Features

On the front of the 512v, you'll find a XLR/TRS combo input for a (line) instrument or a microphone, linked to a microphone input on the back. API has carefully considered the collaboration between the 512v and input-sensitive equipment and designed the variable output switch you can find on this preamp. Furthermore, there's a 20 dB pad switch to weaken the input signal and a digital VU meter for monitoring said signal. Lastly, the polarity switch can be used to turn the phase around and there's a 3:1 output transformer present.
